LOMBOK ISLAND
(population in 2001: 2,722,123 inhabitants) [1] is an island in the Lesser Sunda Islands or Nusa Tenggara are separated by the Lombok Strait of Bali in the west and the Alas Strait to the east of Sumbawa. The island is
roughly spherical with a sort of "tails" on the southwest side of a
length of approximately 70 km. This island area reaching 5,435 km², put them on
108 ratings from the list based on the extent of the world's islands. The main
town on the island is mataram.
Lombok Strait marks the boundary of flora and fauna of Asia. Starting from the
island of Lombok to the east, flora and fauna more showed similarities with the
flora and fauna found in Australia than Asia [2]. Scientists who first stated
this is Alfred Russel Wallace, a British in the 19th century. To honor this
limit is called the Wallace Line.
Topography of the island is dominated by Rinjani volcano which reaches a height of 3726 meters above sea level and making it the third highest in Indonesia. The mountain last erupted in June-July 1994. In 1997 the mountain region and adjoining lake Segara Anak otherwise protected by the government. Areas south of the island is largely composed of fertile land used for agriculture, commodities are usually planted in this area such as corn, rice, coffee, tobacco and cotton.

Lombok in many ways similar to Bali, and in the decade of the 1990s began to be known by foreign tourists. But with the advent of the financial crisis that hit Indonesia in late 1997 and other crises that accompany it, the tourism potential rather been displaced. Then in early 2000 riots inter-ethnic and inter-religious throughout Lombok, causing massive displacement of minorities. They mainly fled to the island of Bali. 2. SENGGIGI BEACH
Senggigi Beach is
a famous tourist spot in Lombok. It is on the west coast of the island of
Lombok. Senggigi Beach is not as big as Kuta Beach in Bali, but once we were
here will feel like being at Kuta Beach, Bali. Entering the Senggigi beach area,
tourists seta immediately accosted by a gentle breeze that soothes. Coastal
beaches are still beautiful, although there are still scattered leaf litter
because rarely cleaned. Underwater scenery is very beautiful, and tourists can
do a surface dive (snorkel) as much because the waves are not too big. Ketengah

Gili
Trawangan is the largest of the three small islands or dyke contained in
northwest Lombok. Trawangan is also the only dyke which height above sea level
is significant. With a length of 3 km and 2 km wide, Trawangan population of
about 800 inhabitants. Among the three dyke, Trawangan has facilities for
tourists of the most diverse; tavern "Tir Na Nog" claims that Trawangan
is the smallest island in the world is his Irish bar. The most densely
populated part is east of the island.
